A Prayer for Perspective & Trust

My Lord and God,

Remind me today, and everyday, that you alone are God who created the world and universe. Help me not forget that by your hand and your will I was created with love and for love. That even today, you reign. Remind me that I am human, that all candidates are human, and that whoever “wins” this election is not You. I am flawed, imperfect, and searching just as who or what I vote for.

Remind me that throughout history no leader or platform has proved to be invincible, omnipotent or unshakeable. No leader has proved to be a savior. No leader can fix everything or end suffering. No leader can restore our land or create harmony in all things.

And so help me to place my trust, my faith, my hope in You alone. May my faith in You guide my discernment as I vote now and in the future. Help me to hear your Word and live it. That no matter who “wins,” I am called to love as You love, to show mercy as You have shown mercy, to serve others as You have shown me to be a servant leader. So I will continue to live in Christ alone, to help the most vulnerable in my midst and to promote justice.

Lord, shape me so that I do not fear or grow anxious because, ultimately, You are the Creator of all. Help me to believe that You will sustain me in all things. Teach me to recognize truth and live my life with integrity, no matter the outcome of any given election.

Remind me today who is God, and who is not. Help me, Lord and God, to place my trust in You. Amen
