Realizations, God’s Grace & Moving Forward
Recall a moment in your life when you finally figured something out, like a light bulb going on in your head. For me, I think of a difficult math problem I solved, the feeling as a teacher that I helped someone understand a concept, or discovering the culprit in a murder mystery.
I have to admit, though, that most of the time I’m left wondering, pondering, or mulling over something without a definite answer – and I finally just have to make a decision one way or another in order to move forward.
We heard on Sunday from Isaiah (55:6-9) who professed God’s words: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts.” Where’s the certainty, the solved problem or resolved issue?
We can never be absolutely certain of a thing, except that God’s grace flows in, above, around and under us at all times. If we allow it, God can shape us, revealing ever so slowly God’s will and what God dreams for us. God works with us as we freely choose our direction. I believe that grace follows us. If our desire is to follow God’s will and we welcome God’s grace daily, we will live into God’s will. God is a God of surprises, joy and love. May we welcome this grace!
